Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that no residents living in Jungle Salimpur and Alinagar in Chattogram will be evicted, assuring that the government will arrange proper rehabilitation for local inhabitants as part of its development plans for the area.
Speaking after a meeting with divisional heads at the Chattogram Circuit House today (31 May), he said, “Terrorists who challenge the authority of the state would not be spared under any circumstances”.
He added that the government would implement a comprehensive master plan to facilitate development and establish government infrastructure in the region.
Reassuring local residents, the minister said, “Those who reside here took shelter under various circumstances. We will arrange rehabilitation for them, and no one will be evicted. Even as development work progresses, no one will be disturbed, and no settlements will be demolished.”
Salahuddin said the government was planning to establish a robust road network connecting Jungle Salimpur, Alinagar, and the surrounding areas. Discussions had also been held regarding the construction of various government academies and facilities in the region.
He said authorities had inspected land near Bayezid Road as part of plans to relocate Chattogram Central Jail. According to the minister, the prison authorities would first take possession of the designated land before undertaking development work.
“The government will examine what other facilities can be established for different departments and proceed with appropriate planning,” he added.
Describing the area as a sanctuary for criminals, Ahmed said the government would respond firmly to the audacity shown by terrorists in challenging the state.
“Wherever they take shelter and whoever supports them, they will be identified and brought under the law. We will eliminate their last remaining hideouts,” he said.
The minister also dismissed suggestions of any division within the administration, saying the district administration and police were working in close coordination as parts of the same government machinery.
He added that issues affecting Jungle Salimpur, as well as neighbouring areas including Raozan, Rangunia, Fatikchhari, and Boalkhali, would be addressed through an integrated plan.
Ahmed further clarified that the ongoing operations in the area had no connection with local government elections.
Seeking cooperation from the media, he said information provided by journalists could significantly assist law enforcement agencies in maintaining law and order and ensuring public safety.
“We hope the media will continue to support efforts to ensure security and meet public expectations,” he said.
