A new policy for the administration, monitoring and accountability of primary education will be formulated within a month, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj said today (23 August).
The policy will be based on feedback and recommendations from workshops being held across the country on classroom activities, monitoring, accountability and reforms to the administrative structure, he said.
Hajjaj made the remarks while addressing a daylong training workshop at the Barishal Shilpakala Academy.
Workshops have already been held in Sylhet, Mymensingh and Chattogram, while similar programmes in all divisions are expected to be completed this month.
The new policy will bring officials and employees across the primary education system under a common administrative framework and clearly define the responsibilities of divisional deputy directors, district primary education officers, assistant upazila education officers, headteachers and assistant teachers.
“This will increase coordination in administrative activities and make the responsibilities and accountability of officials clearer,” he said.
He said improving primary education would require more than infrastructure and textbooks, stressing the need for safe and hygienic school environments, proper implementation of the national curriculum, modern teaching methods, competent teachers and regular training.
The state minister said the government was working to implement Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s vision that “no child will remain outside school” and “every child will learn”.
Officials from the Directorate of Primary Education, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education and different levels of the primary education administration attended the workshop.
