British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke held a courtesy meeting with the Board of Directors of the Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) and discussed bilateral economic relations.
The meeting was held today (18 September) in the chamber’s boardroom, chaired by RCCI President Hasen Ali.
The meeting discussed the potential for exporting Rajshahi’s jute and jute products, silk, mangoes, food grains, and freshwater fish to the United Kingdom, as well as business and student visas and the development of the tourism industry.
In her speech, the British high commissioner said Bangladeshi leather, spices and traditional pitha are appreciated in the UK market, with demand for these products increasing.
The British High Commission is working to develop products from small and medium-sized industries and promote them in the UK market.
She emphasised the need to diversify Rajshahi’s traditional silk and jute products. She also spoke about plans to support Bangladesh’s agricultural sector alongside the ready-made garment sector.
RCCI President Hasen Ali described Rajshahi as an “education city” and sought UK cooperation in the education and technology sectors. He also requested that the business visa process be simplified to facilitate travel for businesspeople.
