Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has said that the National Board of Revenue (NBR) will achieve its revenue collection target for the 2026-27 fiscal year.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting with senior NBR officials and business leaders at the Revenue Building in Agargaon today (9 July), he said, “Revenue collection is expected to be strong. Everyone at the NBR is prepared. We will meet our revenue target.”
The NBR has been tasked with collecting Tk604,000 crore in the current fiscal year, a 45% increase from the revised target for the previous fiscal year. Such a steep increase in the revenue target is unprecedented.
The meeting was attended by NBR Chairman Ahsan Habib, the finance secretary, and senior NBR officials.
Leaders of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) also met the finance minister to raise several industry concerns.
Referring to the discussions with the BTMA leaders, he said the government would continue engaging with the business community to identify their challenges and address them.
“We are continuously discussing with businesses to understand their problems and how those can be resolved. We have already carried out significant deregulation, and if any issues remain, they are being discussed. These issues are being resolved continuously and will continue to be addressed,” he said.
