A Dhaka court today (18 October) ordered that MyTV Chairman Nasir Uddin Sathi be shown arrested in a case filed over the killing of Pappu Chowdhury during the July uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque passed the order following a petition by police, Muhammad Shamsuddoha Suman, a lawyer for the prosecution, confirmed.
Earlier, on 12 October, the case’s investigation officer, Jatrabari Police Station Sub-Inspector Soumitra Sarkar, filed a petition seeking to show Sathi arrested in the case. The court scheduled a hearing for today in the presence of the accused.
Sathi was produced before the court during the hearing. Prosecutor Suman argued in favour of the petition, while defence lawyer Abdullah Al Mansur Ripon sought to prevent him from being shown arrested in the case.
The court subsequently granted the police petition and ordered that Sathi be sent to jail.
According to the case statement, Pappu was shot at around 2:30pm on 4 August 2024 while taking part in a demonstration in front of Donia College in Jatrabari during the July uprising. He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he died the following day while undergoing treatment.
On 23 August 2025, Ali Chowdhury filed a case over Pappu’s death against 86 people, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
Police arrested Sathi from the Gulshan area on 17 August 2025. He has remained in jail since then.
