MTB Foundation and Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital recently organised an eye camp in Naogaon to mark World Sight Day 2026 and support the “Love Your Eyes” campaign.
The camp was held under the project “Community Eye Health Partnership for Preventing Avoidable Blindness among the Mango Growers and Ethnic Community,” according to the press release. MTB Foundation Chief Executive Officer Samia Chowdhury and Associate Nazmus Sakib were present.
Mango cultivation is an important source of livelihood in Rajshahi division, supporting growers and the wider agricultural economy. Long hours outdoors expose growers to ultraviolet radiation, dust, and agricultural chemicals, putting their eye health at risk and affecting their ability to work.
Under the initiative, underserved residents, mainly mango growers and members of ethnic communities, received eye screening, medicines and prescription glasses. Surgical services included cataract and pterygium treatment, as well as dacryocystorhinostomy and dacryocystectomy procedures.
The camp also included awareness sessions on basic eye care. The team plans more eye camps in Naogaon this year.
