Police have arrested actor and model Ridhika Ridhi’s boyfriend, Hasibur Rahman, in connection with the death of the actress, whose hanging body was recovered from a house in the capital’s Bashundhara Residential Area yesterday (15 August).
Mazharul Islam, officer-in-charge of Vatara Police Station, said Ridhika’s mother filed a case yesterday accusing Hasibur of abetting her suicide. Hasibur was subsequently arrested from the Bashundhara area.
“Our investigation into the matter is ongoing,” the OC said.
Police earlier said Ridhika had died by suicide while on a video call with her boyfriend on Saturday morning. She was found hanging from a ceiling fan at around 6am at her home in Bashundhara Residential Area.
According to police, Ridhika had an argument with her boyfriend before the incident. She was later taken to Kurmitola General Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Police initially suspected suicide but said they were investigating to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
After being informed, police took custody of her body at the hospital and sent it to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy, Mazharul Islam said.
Police also found evidence on her mobile phone that she had been on a video call with her boyfriend before her death.
Alongside modelling, Ridhika acted in several television dramas, including Ekhane Manush Bikri Hoy, Bohurupi, Double Honeymoon and Shundori.
