A team from the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) has won the MATE ROV International Underwater Robot Competition 2026, emerging as champion among 77 teams from 16 countries at the global event held in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.
According to a press release issued today (2 July), Team MIST MAVIROV, formed by students of MIST’s Department of Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering (EECE), secured first place in the competition held from 23 to 27 June.
The competition featured teams from countries including the United States, Canada, China and Saudi Arabia, with participants competing in a series of mission-based underwater robotics challenges.
MIST said Team MAVIROV demonstrated engineering excellence, technical innovation, teamwork and problem-solving skills throughout the three-day competition to claim the championship title.
The institute noted that the team has been engaged in underwater robotics research and development for several years.
MIST also commended the dedication and professionalism of the students, faculty members and mentors, while acknowledging the contributions of the team’s sponsors and partners in achieving the international success.
