Measles: Death toll reaches 1,084 as three more die in 24hrs

The health directorate recorded the deaths of three children with measles and measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours preceding 8am today (25 September), taking Bangladesh’s combined toll of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 1,084.

Of the total, 101 deaths were confirmed to have been caused by measles, while 983 involved children who died with measles-like symptoms, according to data from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

During the same period, 1,201 new suspected measles cases were reported, taking the nationwide tally to 185,833.

Another 64 laboratory-confirmed cases were recorded, bringing the total number of confirmed measles infections to 21,015.

Since 15 March, when the DGHS began issuing regular updates, 164,248 patients with suspected measles have been hospitalised across the country.

Of them, 157,807 have recovered, according to the latest DGHS data.
