Measles: Death toll hits 1022 as 3 more children die in 24hrs

Bangladesh’s combined tally of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths has risen to 1,022 after three more children died in the 24 hours to 8am today (13 September), according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of the total, 922 deaths are suspected to have been caused by measles, while 100 have been laboratory-confirmed, the DGHS said.

The country recorded 905 new suspected measles cases during the 24-hour period, taking the cumulative number of suspected cases to 1,71,543.

Meanwhile, 63 new laboratory-confirmed infections were reported, raising the total number of confirmed measles cases to 20,069.

Since 15 March, 1,51,024 patients with suspected measles have been hospitalised nationwide, of whom 1,45,252 have recovered, according to DGHS data.
