Martin McDonagh revealed Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s behind-the-scenes role in his filmmaking process.
Martin directed and also wrote the upcoming thriller, Wild Horse Nine, which is set to be released on November 6, 2026.
However, in a conversation with The Wall Street Journal, before his upcoming film’s theatrical release, the filmmaker shared how he and his longtime partner, Phoebe, who has also done a few writing projects, support each other’s work and maintain their creative independence at the same time.
“We don’t show each other anything,” Martin told the outlet, while Phoebe gave her reasoning, saying that she avoids letting her affection influence her work as she “just really, really fanc[ies] him.”
Following the writing process, Martin said that Phoebe gives her input, stating, “At the filmmaking stage, it’s great to have as many people as possible looking at it, with Phoebe being top choice when it starts to get into, how do we mold and shape this?”
He also named some of the acclaimed industry professionals he had worked with on previous films, including Graham Broadbent, composer Carter Burwell, cinematographer Ben David, and production designer Mark Tildesley.
It is pertinent to mention here that Martin McDonagh and Phoebe Waller-Bridge were first romantically linked in 2017, and it’s been almost nine years since they have been together.
