Special Response Battalion (SRB)-7 has arrested Md Ilias Hossain alias Opu, 25, the primary accused in a case filed over the attempted murder of a plaintiff outside a courtroom in Chattogram.
He was arrested around 6:10pm yesterday (5 October) from Pahari Residential Area under Bayezid Police Station in the city.
SRB-7 disclosed the information in a press release sent to the media this morning (6 October).
According to the press release, SRB-7 received information that Opu, the primary accused named in the case filed with Kotwali Police Station, was staying in Pahari Residential Area. A team later conducted a drive there and arrested him.
The incident took place on 6 September outside the Chattogram 3rd Metropolitan Magistrate Court.
Several people from the defence side allegedly stabbed Nurul Kabir, the plaintiff in a case, before fleeing the scene. He was later admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
The following day, Nurul’s wife, Runa Akter, filed an attempted murder case with Kotwali Police Station. The case named six people, including Joynal Abedin Sohel, along with two to three unidentified individuals.
The charges include unlawful assembly, assault causing hurt, grievous hurt, attempted murder, theft and intimidation.
SRB-7 said its review of the police Crimes Data Management System (CDMS) following Opu’s arrest found five other cases against him at Panchlaish, Kotwali and Chandgaon police stations. The cases involve murder, kidnapping, mugging and theft.
Opu was handed over to Kotwali Model Police Station after his arrest for further legal proceedings.
