The government has announced free legal aid for July fighters, families of martyrs, and relatives of missing persons, expanding support for those affected by July Uprising in 2024.
The Bangladesh Legal Aid Directorate issued a notification amending the ‘Legal Aid Provision Policy, 2014’ on 23 April.
As a result, these groups have now been added to the list of people eligible for government legal aid.
In 2024, the interim government gave the title of ‘July martyrs’ to those who died and ‘July fighters’ to those injured during the movement that led to the fall of the then Awami League government.
According to the amended policy, the families of those killed, injured participants of the movement, and individuals affected by enforced disappearance, along with their families, will be entitled to legal support from the government.
