Julia Garner gave fans a major Madonna throwback at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards.
She joined the singer’s opening performance on Sunday, September 27, at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater, sporting a look inspired by Madonna’s iconic early ’90s era.
Julia wore a cone bra reminiscent of the legendary outfit Madonna first made famous during her 1990 Blond Ambition Tour. Completing her transformation with voluminous curls and bold lip inspired by Madonna’s signature beauty looks.
Later, speaking with Peopl Magazine, Bobby Eliot, the hairstylist shared that he wanted to reference Madonna without making Garner look like she was wearing a costume.
Bobby shared, “Because the fashion itself carries such a strong reference, I wanted the hair to complement it without feeling overly styled or costume-like. Keeping some softness and imperfection in the texture gave the entire look a freshness that felt right for Julia.”
“He explained that he studied Madonna’s original looks before adapting their shape, texture and movement for Julia. “It was about so much more than just hair or fashion. There was this confidence, freedom and fearlessness to everything she did. The beauty was glamorous and considered, but it also had an attitude and effortlessness that made it feel incredibly modern,” Bobby said further.
