A Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Jubodal activist was killed and two others were injured in a shooting in Dhaka’s Mirpur-13 late Friday (24 July), police said.
The incident occurred around 11:30pm in front of the Opex Garments factory in the Kafrul area, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Islam of Kafrul Police Station confirmed to The Business Standard.
He identified the deceased as Yusuf Ali, 45, and added that the injured had been hospitalised.
The other injured are Kafrul Thana Jubo Dal Member Secretary Hafizur Rahman and a passerby. After they were shot in the attack, all three were rushed to a hospital, where Yusuf later died.
Sujon, one of the BNP activists who witnessed the attacked, told reporters Hafizur, Yusuf, and six-seven others (including Sujon) were chatting in the area when three armed men suddenly approached them and opened fire.
He said Hafizur was hit by two bullets and Hafizur was struck by one bullet in the chest. As the attackers fled, some locals chased them, caught one of the armed suspects, and handed him over to the police after giving him a beating.
