Mckenna Grace recently lifted the lid on the struggle she faced in her teenage years and what actually helped her accept herself.
While conversing with PEOPLE magazine to promote her forthcoming Hunger Games prequel, Sunrise on the Reaping, Grace revealed that she has been making appearances on red carpets since she was seven years old; however, she never felt comfortable in her skin until she underwent scoliosis surgery.
The 20-year-old American actress and singer is now embarking on a global press tour, and it feels altogether a different experience because she has been a “deeply insecure teenager.”
She said, “It’s also been so fun for me because I was such a deeply insecure teenager. And for me, fashion was such a source of anxiety, and I hated, hated doing fittings.”
Garce added, “I had severe scoliosis and one of my hips was higher than the other, so none of my dresses or skirts or anything would fit as they were supposed to, so I’d have to get them really tailored.”
The Young Sheldon star stated that she was putting extra effort into looking the way she always wanted to, but her body was “out of sorts.”
“It created a lot of dysmorphia for me, and I was just so anxious whenever it came to fashion growing up,” Grace admitted.
For those unaware, she underwent spine surgery in 2022 that actually “changed” her life and helped her achieve confidence, as the procedure took her back to a 6-degree curve from a 47-degree curve.
“It’s so exciting to be in a place now where fashion has turned into something fun and exciting and a way to pay tribute to the films that I’m a part of and these things that I’m such a fan of,” the Ghostbusters actress noted.
It is pertinent to mention that The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, which stars Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner along with an ensemble cast, including Jennifer Lawrence, Ralph Fiennes, Maya Hawke, Joseph Zada, Jesse Plemons, and others, will be released in theaters and IMAX in the United States on November 20, 2026.
