A Hong Kong footwear industry delegation has recently explored investment opportunities in Bangladesh’s footwear sector, visiting Bangladesh Shoe City in Gazipur and signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that could pave the way for direct investment and joint ventures.
A six-member delegation from the Hong Kong Shoe Association visited Bangladesh Shoe City Limited (BSCL) in Gazipur at the invitation of Nasir Khan, chairman and founder of BSCL.
Eddie Lam, president of the Hong Kong Shoe Association, led the delegation, according to a statement issued by the BSCL today (31 August).
The main objectives of the visit were to inspect Bangladesh Shoe City, assess investment opportunities, and discuss prospects for future joint investment and business partnerships.
Later, at a conference, representatives of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (Bida) and the President and representatives of the Footwear, Leather Goods and Accessories Exporters Association (FLAXA) made presentations on various important issues aimed at promoting cooperation and encouraging investment by Hong Kong investors.
The discussions covered investment opportunities, facilities, prospects and potential challenges at Bangladesh Shoe City.
Bida, on behalf of the government, assured all kinds of cooperation, including necessary support on export-related matters and the establishment of a central bonded warehouse at Bangladesh Shoe City.
FLAXA, meanwhile, highlighted the availability of a skilled and experienced workforce in Bangladesh.
On 25 August, the Hong Kong delegation visited the industrial area and factory facilities of Bangladesh Shoe City in Gazipur.
Later, Eddie Lam, President of the Hong Kong Shoe Association, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the BSCL aimed at future business cooperation, investment and mutual development.
Nasir Khan said that Bangladesh Shoe City was interested in cooperating with the Hong Kong Shoe Association on direct investment as well as joint-venture business initiatives in the future.
