Traffic pressure on the Dhaka-Aricha highway and the Nabinagar-Chandra road increased this afternoon (25 May) as factories in Savar and Ashulia began announcing Eid holidays, prompting a surge of homebound travellers.
According to Industrial Police sources, around 45% of factories in the Ashulia industrial zone had declared holidays by evening, leading to a sharp rise in passenger and vehicle movement on major roads.
Police said rain, excessive traffic and poor road conditions caused slow movement at several key points, including Nabinagar, Palli Bidyut, Baipail and parts of the Dhaka-Aricha highway.
The situation has been particularly severe on the Nabinagar-Chandra road between Baipail and Sreepur due to damaged roads, ongoing expressway construction work and waterlogging caused by rain.

Traffic pressure from Chandra has also begun affecting nearby routes, with vehicle tailbacks stretching up to 8-10 kilometres and reaching the Kabirpur area by evening.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Savar Circle) Rakibul Hasan Ishan told The Business Standard that although traffic remained slow, vehicles were still moving and no major gridlock had formed.
Savar Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Shahjahan said authorities were working to manage the increased holiday traffic and minimise public suffering.
