The long-neglected Bangladesh Institute of Health Management in Savar is set to officially begin its operations on 1 January, announced State Minister for Health and Family Welfare MA Muhit today (31 October).
He said all renovation work would be completed by 31 December this year, ensuring the institute was fully prepared to begin providing administrative training for doctors from the start of the next year.
The state minister made the announcement after inspecting the institute’s infrastructure in Savar after chairing a meeting attended by local elected representatives, politicians, the health secretary, Public Works Department engineers and other government officials.
According to the decision taken in the meeting, a joint team comprising representatives from the Ministry of Health, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and the Public Works Department would inspect the premises within the next two weeks. The team will prepare an inventory of damaged or stolen equipment.
The Public Works Department was also instructed to arrange office accommodation for officials and take steps to bring the substation into operation within the next one to two days.
Following the inspection, Muhit said the facility, which had remained neglected due to mismanagement and a lack of attention under the previous government, would be transformed into a national training centre to develop doctors into skilled health administrators.
The state minister further alleged that the previous government had wasted public money, used corruption as a tool and damaged the country’s entire healthcare system.
He added that the current government would move away from the politics of public rallies and instead focus on public service. Working closely with the people, the government would tackle corruption and irregularities and work towards rebuilding the country, he said.
