Police have recovered the half-decomposed bodies of a woman and a child from a pit in Faridpur’s Sadar upazila this evening (14 May).
The deceased were identified as Jahanara Akter, 32, and her four-year-old daughter Samia Akter,
Confirming the matter, Md Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Faridpur Kotwali Police Station, said, “The bodies were recovered from a banana grove owned by Ikhlas Matubbar in Kalitala Banamali Majhi Para village under Charmadbdia union.”
“Investigations are underway to uncover the mystery behind the incident,” he added.
According to police and local sources, local resident Kulsum Begum became suspicious after noticing a dog digging the ground beside the banana grove while grazing goats in the afternoon.
Sensing a foul smell, she went closer and saw a human heel protruding from beneath the soil.
She then informed locals, who alerted police from Faridpur Sadar Police Station.
Police later dug up the area and recovered the half-decomposed bodies of the woman and child.
According to the victim’s husband Amjad Hossain, Jahanara and Samia had gone to a relative’s house in the Char Daulatdia Hat area on 4 May to attend a qulkhani programme. Since then, they had remained missing.
