Govt plans bigger community role in primary schools: Bobby Hajjaj

The government plans to increase local communities’ involvement in primary schools by forming ‘School Friend Communities’ and parent-guardian circles, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj said today (13 August) at a discussion on “Community Engagement in Primary Education” at the Directorate of Primary Education at Mirpur, Dhaka.

He said the initiative would bring local residents, parents, guardians and other stakeholders into the primary education system to help improve the quality of schooling.

“We want to increase the involvement of people from the surrounding community with schools through ‘School Friend Communities’,” he said.

The initiative will seek to use the knowledge and experience available within local communities to support primary education, while greater emphasis will also be placed on inclusion in schools, the state minister said.

He said the government also plans to form circles involving parents and guardians and bring different organisations into its community engagement efforts.

The discussion focused on improving primary education through greater community participation, strengthening links between schools and local residents, and engaging parents and other stakeholders.

Expressing satisfaction with the outcome of the meeting, Bobby said the discussions had created a positive basis for working together on community engagement in primary education.
