Sources within the ministry’s discipline division confirmed that measures are being taken under Section 42 of the Public Service Act-2018.
Under the act, if a public servant is convicted of a criminal offense and sentenced to death or imprisonment exceeding one year, they are subject to immediate dismissal from the date the order is issued.
Earlier, International Crimes Tribunals 1 and 2 convicted several senior and subordinate police officers on charges of superior responsibility and direct involvement in killings and crimes against humanity during the July Uprising.
The convicted officers include former inspector general of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner Habibur Rahman, former Dhaka Range DIG Syed Nurul Islam, former joint commissioner Sudip Kumar Chakrabarty, former Dhaka District superintendent of Police (SP) Asaduzzaman, former additional SP Abdullahil Kafi, former additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Shah Alam Md Akhtarul Islam, former additional SP (Savar Circle) Shahidul Islam, and former assistant commissioner Mohammad Imrul.

In a letter sent to the home ministry on 6 July, Police Headquarters confirmed that the relevant documentation – including the court judgment, arrest warrant, and trial orders – had been forwarded to enable appropriate action.
The letter added that measures against those implicated in the crimes would continue.
Meanwhile, former inspector general of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun has been arrested in connection with a case before the International Crimes Tribunal-1 and is currently held in custody.
Habibur Rahman, former commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), has been dismissed from service under Section 42 of the Public Service Act 2018 following proceedings by the International Crimes Tribunal-1. He remains absconding.
Syed Nurul Islam, former deputy inspector general (DIG) of the Dhaka Range, has been suspended from duty and attached to the office of the DIG for the Rajshahi-Rangpur Range.
Sudip Kumar Chakraborty, former joint commissioner of the DMP, has also been suspended and attached to the office of the Barishal Range DIG.
Former Dhaka District superintendent of Police (SP) Md Asaduzzaman has been placed under suspension and assigned to the Bangladesh Police Academy (BPA) in Sardah of Rajshahi.
Md Abdullahil Kafi, former additional superintendent of Police for Dhaka, was arrested on 3 September 2024 and presented before the court; he is currently under suspension.
Shah Alam Md Akhtarul Islam, former additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Ramna, has been suspended and attached to the In-Service Training Centre in Sylhet.
Shahidul Islam, former additional superintendent of Police for the Savar Circle, remains under suspension following his arrest on 30 October 2024 in a case before the International Crimes Tribunal-1.
Additionally, former DMP assistant commissioner Mohammad Imrul has been suspended and posted to the 14 Armed Police Battalion (APBn) in Ukhiya of Cox’s Bazar.
