The government has officially launched the National Action Plan (NAP) 2026–2030 to implement the objectives of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM), reaffirming its commitment to ensuring safe, orderly and regular migration while protecting the rights and dignity of Bangladeshi migrants.
The action plan was launched in Dhaka today (2 August) by the Government of Bangladesh in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM)
The event was jointly convened by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, the co-chairs of the Bangladesh Migration Compact Taskforce (BMCT), with technical support from the IOM.
It also included a debriefing on the outcomes of the International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) 2026, highlighting Bangladesh’s contributions to the global migration agenda.
The National Action Plan was approved by the Cabinet on 21 May this year.
Speakers stressed the need for continued collaboration among government institutions, international partners, civil society, the private sector and migrants to ensure the successful implementation of the action plan.
They said the government remains committed to making migration safe, orderly and regular while maximising its contribution to national development and safeguarding the rights and dignity of Bangladeshi migrants.
The programme also featured Bangladesh’s renewed commitments towards implementing the GCM, remarks from civil society representatives, the official unveiling of the National Action Plan, and a video documentary and thematic exhibition showcasing the country’s achievements and challenges in migration governance.
Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury attended the event as chief guest, while State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam chaired the programme.
State Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Md Nurul Haque, Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin, IOM Deputy Director General for Operations Ugochi Daniels, Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam and Expatriates’ Welfare Secretary Md Mokhtar Ahmed also attended.
