Senior BNP leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy today (5 May) said that the country is currently facing significant challenges alleging money laundering, weakened banking sector and widespread losses among business communities.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after paying tribute at the graves of former president Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar of Dhaka. He was accompanied by MP Nipun Roy Chowdhury.
Commenting on reserved seats for women in parliament, Gayeshwar expressed hope that female lawmakers would play a stronger role in advancing women’s rights and empowerment.
He said, “There is a growing public expectation for democratic progress and an end to authoritarianism. More women should be directly elected to parliament in the future.”
Earlier, Nipun Roy Chowdhury, also general secretary of Dhaka District BNP, laid floral wreaths at Ziaur Rahman’s grave along with party activists.
