Garment workers have once again blocked the Mirpur-10 roundabout in Dhaka, demanding that the minimum monthly wage be raised to Tk30,000.
Workers from several garment factories in Mirpur took position at the intersection around 9am today (1 November), bringing traffic to a standstill.
The blockade has disrupted vehicular movement through the Mirpur-10 intersection, causing traffic congestion in the area.
The Mirpur Traffic Division is attempting to ease the situation by diverting vehicles to alternative routes, confirmed Assistant Commissioner (AC) of Police at the Mirpur Traffic Division Mohammad Mahfuzul Haque Bokshi to The Business Standard.
“Garment workers have blocked the road again today. Vehicular movement through Mirpur-10 is currently suspended. We are trying to restore normal traffic flow through diversions,” he told TBS.
Earlier, garment workers blocked several roads in Mirpur for around five hours each on Thursday and yesterday (31 October), demanding a minimum monthly wage of Tk30,000.
Following yesterday’s blockade, workers also vandalised several garment factories and shopping malls.
