Former Swechchhasebak Dal leader stabbed to death in Dhaka’s Mouchak

Former Ramna Thana Swechchhasebak Dal convener Billal Hossain Talukdar was stabbed to death in the Mouchak area of the capital tonight (8 June).

The incident took place around 8pm in front of Anarkali Market in Mouchak, confirmed Assistant Commissioner of Police (Ramna Zone) Md Mazharul Islam.

Police and locals said a local arbitration meeting was held in front of the market over an alleged assault on Billal Hossain’s nephew. During an altercation at the meeting, people from the opposing side allegedly stabbed Billal in the chest.

He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Md Mazharul Islam told The Business Standard, “According to unverified sources, followers of Ramna Thana Jubo Dal Convener Didarul Islam Babu stabbed Billal during the arbitration meeting.”

He said this has not yet been confirmed, and they are investigating the matter.

He added that the body has been kept at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Billal Hossain’s name previously surfaced in connection with the vandalism of the Sohag Paribahan office and the residence of its owner in Malibagh in September 2025.

Following that incident, he was expelled for life from the primary membership of Swechchhasebak Dal and was subsequently arrested.
