A fire that broke out at a jhut (garment waste) warehouse in Deuliabari area of Konabari in Gazipur was brought under control after four hours of efforts by five Fire Service units this morning (27 August).
All goods stored at the warehouse were reportedly destroyed in the fire, but no casualties were reported.
According to Fire Service and local sources, the fire broke out at around 5:30am at a jhut warehouse and quickly spread to several adjacent warehouses.
Seeing the flames, local residents initially tried to put out the fire themselves. However, as the blaze intensified, they informed the Fire Service.
Three units from Konabari Fire Station reached the scene and began firefighting operations. Two more units from Sarabo Fire Station later joined the operation.
After around four hours of efforts, firefighters brought the blaze under control at around 9:30am, the Fire Service said.
Confirming the incident, Konabari Fire Service Warehouse Inspector Md Saiful Islam said, “We received the news of the fire at around 5:30am. Currently, our five units are working to put out the fire. It was possible to bring the fire fully under control at around 9:30am.”
He said the exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage were not immediately known.
“Details will be known after the dumping operation and investigation are completed,” he added.
