A man in Chattogram’s Hathazari upazila has been accused of killing his two-month-old child by throwing the infant to the ground in a fit of rage after his wife allegedly delayed serving him tea.
The accused, identified as Osman Gani, 30, a resident of Mirzapur union in the upazila, has been absconding since the incident, police said.
Habibur Rahman, sub-inspector of Hathazari Police Station, said they detained the child’s uncle, Rumman, for preliminary questioning following the incident.
According to police and locals, the incident took place around 8:30am today (14 April) when Osman was sitting with his younger brother, Rumman, and asked his wife to serve tea. Allegedly enraged by the delay, he snatched the baby from his wife’s arms and slammed the child onto the ground.
The infant sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Hathazari Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared the baby dead.
Hathazari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Zahidur Rahman said police are investigating whether there were any prior family disputes linked to the incident.
“The father has been on the run since the incident, and efforts are underway to arrest him,” he said.
The child’s body has been sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, and legal proceedings are underway, he added.
