Prominent entrepreneur and business leader Selima Ahmad has passed away.
She died at a hospital in Bangkok today (21 June), according to family sources.
Selima Ahmad was the vice chairperson of Nitol-Niloy Group and the founder-president of the Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BWCCI).
She was also the wife of Abdul Matlub Ahmad, chairman of Nitol-Niloy Group and former president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI).
A pioneering figure in promoting women’s entrepreneurship in Bangladesh, Selima Ahmad worked for more than three decades to support private sector development and empower women entrepreneurs.
Through BWCCI, she played a key role in developing entrepreneurial skills among women and facilitating access to finance and markets for women-owned businesses.
She was elected a member of parliament in the 11th National Parliament election held in 2018.
During her long career, Selima Ahmad earned recognition at home and abroad for her contribution to women’s economic empowerment and business development.
