Rangpur-4 lawmaker Akhter Hossen today (8 June) alleged that emergency relief allocated by the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief on 30 April was distributed only among constituencies represented by ruling party lawmakers.
Raising a supplementary question during the second sitting of parliament’s second session, Akhter said no opposition lawmaker had received any share of the allocation.
“Natural disasters do not occur only in constituencies represented by ruling party members. In post-July Uprising Bangladesh, such discrimination in relief distribution is unexpected,” he told the House.
In response, Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu said lawmakers who had submitted demand letters were given priority in receiving allocations.
