The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) has approved a proposal to build a 442MW solar power plant with battery energy storage in Bagerhat’s Rampal, which is expected to be the country’s largest solar power project.
The proposal was approved at an Ecnec meeting held at the Secretariat today (7 October).
The Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) plans to implement the project, with completion targeted for December 2030, according to the project proposal seen by The Business Standard.
The estimated cost of the project is Tk2,502.39 crore. Of this, Tk2,127 crore will be financed from the Power Development Fund, while Tk375.94 crore will come from BPDB’s own resources.
The project will include battery energy storage facilities alongside the solar power generation system.
The proposed electricity tariff from the plant is Tk6.18 per unit.
The project is expected to increase electricity generation from renewable energy sources, while the battery storage system will help store electricity generated by the solar plant for use when required.
