Kendra and Joseph Duggar have changed their pleas in an Arkansas child neglect case and agreed to a 12-month probationary period instead of continuing to plead not guilty.
The couple was originally charged earlier this year with multiple counts related to child endangerment and false imprisonment, following a search of their home.
Under the new agreement, if the couple avoids any new legal trouble, follows all court orders, and pays a required fine, the charges against them will eventually be dismissed at the end of the probation period.
Neither Kendra nor Joseph, nor their attorney, have made public comments about the case, and specific details remain limited.
The charges came after local police and child welfare officials searched the family’s home in March, shortly after Joseph was taken into custody on unrelated charges filed in Florida involving allegations against a minor. Those charges are separate from the case in Arkansas.
After the search of their home, Kendra was briefly taken into custody but was released after posting bail. She was unable to have contact with her children for about a month afterward.
Joseph, who remained in custody at the time awaiting extradition to Florida, is currently not permitted unsupervised contact with his children, as part of the conditions tied to his separate legal case.
The probationary period for the Arkansas case began earlier this month and is set to continue for about a year.
