Dhaka University has climbed approximately 100 places in the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2026, emerging as a joint top-ranked institution in Bangladesh, according to a university press release issued today (24 April).
The latest rankings, published yesterday (23 April), place the university in the 301-350 band among Asian institutions, up from the 401-500 range in 2025. Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) was also ranked in the 301-350 band.
A total of 929 universities from 36 countries were included in this year’s rankings. Of them, 28 public and private universities from Bangladesh secured positions.
Dhaka University recorded improvements across several key indicators. Its overall score rose to 38.3-40.1, from last year’s 31.5-34.3.
In specific metrics, the research environment score increased from 12.0 to 15.7, while research quality saw a significant jump from 58.8 to 74.3.
The industry–academia collaboration score also improved, rising from 21.4 to 33.2, the press release said.
Vice-Chancellor Professor ABM Obaidul Islam said the approximately 100-place jump reflects the university’s collective efforts and research-driven academic approach.
“The notable progress in research quality, research environment and industry collaboration indicators is a positive signal for our future trajectory,” he said.
He added that the university remains committed to strengthening its global academic standing through continued focus on education and research excellence.
