Drake is, it appears, dominating the music scene in the wake of his release of three albums in a row.
As a result, the Toronto rapper has bounced back to the top of Global Spotify’s Top Artists chart after previously slipping.
This comes after the streaming giant has won a legal case accusing it of artificially boosting streams for several musicians, including Drizzy.
Rapper RBX leveled the allegation, claiming Spotify has not cracked down on fake or bot-generated streams.
This alleged activity, in turn, moved royalties away from independent artists, whom he claimed made original music.
Spotify’s anti-fraud system, according to the complaint, turned a blind eye to streaming activity that RBX claimed was suspicious and linked to some of the industry’s A-list musicians.
When the lawsuit was filed last November, Spotify’s spokesman said, “We heavily invest in always-improving, best-in-class systems to combat it and safeguard artist payouts with strong protections like removing fake streams, withholding royalties, and charging penalties.”
However, federal judge Josephine Staton tossed out the case, ruling that the accusations lacked sufficient evidence.
It is worth noting that Drake was not accused of any wrongdoing in the lawsuit.
