Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has urged city residents to promptly remove construction materials and other goods from roads and footpaths across the capital, warning that legal action will be taken against violators if the directive is not followed.
The call was made in a public notice issued today (13 April), signed by acting DMP commissioner Md Sarwar.
According to the notice, authorities have recently observed that construction materials used by government and private entities, individuals and institutions are being left indiscriminately on roads and footpaths in different parts of Dhaka, causing traffic congestion and creating difficulties for pedestrians.
The DMP said such practices clearly violate provisions of the DMP Ordinance, 1976 (Sections 67, 68, 72, and 102), as well as the Road Transport Act, 2018 (Sections 37 and 82).
The notice further stated that mobile courts led by metropolitan magistrates, along with the DMP Traffic Division, will soon conduct special drives across the city against these violations.
Locals have been requested to comply with the law and quickly remove all construction materials and other items from roads and footpaths to avoid legal action.
