Sixty Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) officers received training in road crash investigation at a two-day workshop aimed at identifying the causes of crashes, preventing similar incidents and ensuring justice for victims.
DMP and the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP) jointly organised the workshop at a hotel in the capital on 26–27 October, 2026, under the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety, according to a press release.
Officers attended the training in two batches. Speakers stressed that every road crash should be properly investigated by trained professionals to establish its causes and inform preventive measures.
DMP Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md Anisur Rahman inaugurated the workshop. He proposed forming a team of 10 officers to serve as specialist crash investigators and train other DMP personnel.
He said the team could strengthen investigations across DMP’s jurisdiction and urged officers to combine lessons from the training with their field experience to develop practical ideas for improving road safety in Dhaka.
Dhaka North City Corporation Additional Chief Engineer Khondoker Mahbub Alam attended as a special guest. He said crashes were preventable and called for coordinated action to address risks associated with road design, driver behaviour and road users’ awareness of traffic rules.
Md Abdul Wadud, initiative coordinator for Dhaka North and a former additional secretary, moderated the workshop. He thanked the city corporation and DMP for their efforts to make Dhaka’s roads safer.
GRSP Senior Road Policing Adviser for Asia Pacific Peter Jones conducted the training sessions, focusing on how crash investigations can help prevent future incidents.
He demonstrated techniques for collecting evidence at crash scenes, preparing sketches and diagrams, and taking photographs to document incidents, preserve evidence and support investigations.
Dhaka North City Corporation Chief Engineer Brigadier General Syed Raquibul Hasan attended the closing session as chief guest. He stressed that training delivers results when participants apply their knowledge and skills in the field.
He expressed hope that thorough investigations would identify factors contributing to crashes and help policymakers and engineers take corrective measures to make roads safer.
Other attendees included DMP Joint Police Commissioner (Traffic–Dhaka North) ASM Shamsur Rahman Bhuiyan; Mina Mahmuda, deputy police commissioner for traffic administration, planning and research; and Aminul Islam Sujon, technical adviser at Vital Strategies.
The initiative’s Dhaka North team was also represented by Md Golam Hossain, enforcement coordinator; Rezaur Rahman, transport coordinator; Dr Tanvir Ibn Ali, surveillance coordinator; and Md Mahamudul Hasan, communication officer.
