Md Akhtar Hossain has been appointed as the new deputy commissioner (DC) and spokesperson for the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) Media and Public Relations Division, following a vacancy of more than two and a half months.
DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmad signed an order yesterday (25 August) appointing Akhtar to the post.
Previously, on 11 June, the home ministry transferred then-DMP spokesperson N M Nasiruddin to Noakhali as superintendent of police (SP).
The post of DC and spokesperson of the division had remained vacant since then.
In the same order, DC Md Touhidul Arif was transferred to the DMP’s Public Order Management (POM) South Division.
The DMP Media and Public Relations Division communicates the city police’s activities, operations, law and order, and official statements to the media. It also coordinates with journalists.
Officials concerned view the appointment as significant after the post remained vacant for an extended period.
Akhtar previously served as SP of Lakshmipur.
He later joined the DMP after his transfer from Sylhet to Dhaka. He also has experience serving in various police units and key positions.
