A Dhaka court today (16 June) rejected the bail petitions of former minister Dipu Moni in two murder cases linked to the July Uprising.
Metropolitan Magistrate Ashraful Haque passed the order. Prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon confirmed the matter.
Although defence lawyer Rashida Akter Juthi had filed the bail petition, she was not present during the hearing, leading the court to reject the application.
The cases relate to the killings of jute trader Md Monir in Shahbagh on 5 August 2024 and Riazul Talukdar in Paltan on 4 August 2024 during anti-government protests.
According to the cases, Monir was allegedly killed by gunfire at Chankharpul, while Riazul was shot dead in the Topkhana area. Separate murder cases were later filed naming several former government figures among the accused.
