The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) handed over Shahriar Reza Dwip, a close acquaintance and business partner of former Air Force Flight Lieutenant KM Tahsif Souri, to the River Police early today (31 October) in connection with his death.
A PBI official holding the rank of superintendent of police said the River Police will file an unnatural death case as the family is not interested in filing one.
Dwip was taken into PBI custody from a residence on Babar Road in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area on Thursday night (29 October) for questioning.
At the time, a PBI Dhaka Metropolitan North official told The Business Standard that Dwip was brought in to collect information as he had been with Tahsif before the former air force officer went missing.
Dwip reportedly spent around five and a half hours with Tahsif before he went missing.
On the evening of 27 October, Souri left home after telling his mother, “Dwip is coming; I will go and talk to him.” He did not return home afterwards.
CCTV footage from the garage beneath Tahsif’s residence shows Dwip arriving on a motorcycle at 6:24pm that day. Tahsif later came down, met Dwip, and the two were seen shaking hands and talking before leaving separately on their motorcycles at 6:31pm.
According to Dwip’s account, they went to a workshop to have some work done on their motorcycles and later had dinner together at a restaurant in Uttara’s Ashkona area.
He claimed they parted ways in the House Building area of Uttara between 11:30pm and midnight, after which he returned home. He also said he did not know where Tahsif went afterwards.
Tahsif Souri’s body was recovered from the Turag River near Rajabari Ghat in Dhaka’s Uttarkhan area on the afternoon of Wednesday (28 October), a day after he went missing.
