Daily gas supply stands at 2,619 MMCF as RLNG runs at peak capacity, but supply deficit persists

Countrywide gas supply reached 2,619 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) as of 2pm today (27 September), supported heavily by imported Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), according to daily operational data from Petrobangla.

Of the total volume supplied to the national grid, domestic gas fields contributed 1,603 MMCFD, while Re-gasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) accounted for 1,016 MMCFD to help bridge the energy deficit.

The 1,016 MMCFD RLNG contribution reflects near-peak operational capacity of the country’s two Floating Storage and Regasification Units (FSRUs) moored off Moheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar–operated by Excelerate Energy and Summit Group–which hold a combined maximum re-gasification capability of around 1,100 MMCFD.

Despite maintaining RLNG supply above the 1,000 MMCFD mark, the current total output of 2,619 MMCFD still falls significantly short of the nation’s total estimated demand, which ranges between 3,800 MMCFD and 4,000 MMCFD.

This leaves an ongoing daily deficit of approximately 1,200 to 1,400 MMCFD across key sectors.
