The National Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (NINMAS) at Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) has inaugurated the country’s first Resona A20 ultra high-resolution machine, capable of measuring liver fat and diagnosing liver cancer and thyroid cancer.
To mark the occasion, NINMAS’s Research Cell and its Ultrasound and Color Doppler Division jointly organised a scientific seminar titled “Beyond Conventional Ultrasound: Elastoscan and Fat Quantification with High Resolution Ultrasound” yesterday (8 September) at the Kamal Uddin Ahmed Auditorium with Professor Dr AKM Fazlul Bari, director of NINMAS and President of the Bangladesh Thyroid Society in the chair.
Addressing the seminar, Professor Dr AKM Fazlul Bari stated that approximately 33% of people in Bangladesh suffer from fatty liver or liver fat-related problems, while around 16% are affected by chronic liver disease and liver cancer, and 2% by thyroid cancer.
Against this backdrop, Mindray has, for the first time in Bangladesh, supplied an ultra-high-resolution machine of this kind in the Resona A20. Through this new machine, NINMAS has for the first time incorporated modern liver fat quantification technology Elastoscan along with groundbreaking modalities for grading liver fibrous tissue and cirrhosis, and for diagnosing liver and thyroid cancer, namely Shear Wave Elastography and Strain Elastography, said Dr AKM Fazlul Bari.
He further stated that with the installation of this ultra-high-resolution probe (33 MHz) at NINMAS, it will now be possible to precisely diagnose various conditions of the skin, hair follicles, nails, subcutaneous pathology, and the lymphatic system.
Around a hundred physicians attended the seminar where a practical session was also conducted on the role of ultrasound in measuring liver fat, diagnosing liver cancer, and accurately diagnosing thyroid cancer.
