Individuals who record and share videos of others without consent under the guise of being “content creators” will face swift legal action under the Cyber Security Act 2026, Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam said today (21 April).
He said investigations into such offences must be completed within 90 days to ensure speedy trials.
Responding to a written question in parliament, the minister said Section 25(1) of the Cyber Security Act 2026 criminalises the intentional transmission, publication or threat to publish any information, video, image or material for purposes such as blackmail, sexual harassment, revenge porn or sextortion through digital or electronic platforms.
The statement came during the question-answer session on the 18th day of the first session of the 13th National Parliament.
The question was raised by lawmaker Rafiqul Islam Hilali of Netrokona-3 constituency. Although it was listed for 19 April, it was placed in parliament today.
In his reply, the minister said legal measures have already been taken by the Information and Communication Technology Division to address such offences.
Earlier, the Cyber Security Bill 2026 was passed in parliament on 10 April.
