Construction and commissioning activities at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) are continuing uninterrupted following a fire outside the main facilities.
According to a RNPP project, there was no possibility of any impact on the construction and commissioning activities of the nuclear power plant due to the fire that broke out at a temporary building outside the plant’s construction on September 7.
Following the incident, the Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel promptly reached the scene and brought the fire completely under control.
“None was injured or killed in the incident,” said a statement issued by the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission yesterday (9 September).
It said furniture, documents, and IT and communication equipment in two rooms of the temporary building were partially damaged in the fire, while adequate backup copies of the affected documents were preserved.
However, the matter is still under investigation.
An Investigation committee was formed in accordance with the project’s Fire Safety Procedure to determine the actual cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage.
