The Bangladesh Coast Guard detained thirty-seven fishermen and seized two artisanal trawlers allegedly operating illegally during a pre-dawn operation in Banshkhali, Chattogram today.
Acting on a tip-off, a Bangladesh Coast Guard contingent conducted the operation near Sheikherkhil Fish Ghat under Banshkhali Police Station at around 1am.
Bangladesh Coast Guard personnel searched the vessels and seized 14 trawling nets before detaining the fishermen, according to a statement.
Legal proceedings involving the detained fishermen, seized trawlers and nets are underway, the statement added.
The Bangladesh Coast Guard stated that operations will continue to protect the country’s fisheries resources.
