The Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) has donated Tk1 crore to the Prime Minister’s Relief and Welfare Fund to support people affected by the recent floods.
CCCI President Mohammad Amirul Haque handed over the cheque to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Prime Minister’s Office at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban last evening (15 July), according to a press release.
Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury was also present during the cheque handover ceremony.
The prime minister thanked the Chittagong Chamber for its humanitarian contribution, saying the business community’s support during a national crisis was highly commendable.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Tarique Rahman highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to tackle the flood situation and provide relief to affected communities.
He said the government had remained proactive since the onset of the floods to ease the suffering of victims, adding that the voluntary participation of the private sector and social organisations would further strengthen the country’s disaster response.
The prime minister also assured business leaders that the government was giving due importance to the losses suffered by industries and businesses due to the floods and would provide all possible support to help revive economic activities.
Amirul Haque reaffirmed the chamber’s commitment to supporting flood victims, saying the CCCI would continue to stand beside the government in responding to national crises.
