Leaders and activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League staged a procession and rally in Noakhali Sadar upazila yesterday (5 June) despite attempts by police to prevent the programme.
The procession was brought out after Jummah prayers at Badh-er Hat Bazar in Noanni Union of the upazila, confirmed Sudharam Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Touhidul Islam.
The procession marched through the main roads of the market area while chanting slogans in support of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
A rally was later held following the procession, presided over by former Noanni Union Chhatra League president Ashraful Karim Chowdhury Babu.
According to local sources, a police team was present at the scene before the programme began and attempted to stop the procession.
The OC stated that police had tried to obstruct the procession, but it continued.
“As the number of participants increased, police members had to withdraw,” he added.
