Chhatra Dal leader Jisan found dead after alleged abduction in Chakaria

Isfatul Islam Jisan, senior joint convener of the Chakaria upazila unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal’s Kakara union, was allegedly abducted from a roadside and found dead on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway.

Police recovered his body, with his hands and legs tied, from the Kachchhapia Dhala area about four hours after his abduction, with visible injury marks on his body.
The incident occurred around 11:30pm yesterday (27 September).

Jisan was the son of Nazem Uddin of South Lotoni area in Ward 3 of Kakara union.
According to his family and local sources, Jisan was standing in front of a shop at Kakara Majher Station on Saturday night when unidentified men arrived in a white microbus and took him away.

The family alleged that Jisan was taken to Kabir Tower in Sabujbagh area of Ward 4 in Chakaria municipality, where he was tortured and killed before his body was dumped beside the highway.

An audio recording of a conversation between Jisan’s elder brother Kaiser and Mizan, younger brother of Kabir Tower owner Zakaria, has circulated on social media.
Kaiser claimed that the conversation took place around two hours before Jisan was abducted.

In the recording, Mizan can be heard saying, “We have been compelled to take a decision and have filed a case. If you do not sit with us to resolve the matter involving your brother Jisan within tomorrow, I will find a way to resolve it myself. Fifty people are ready to look for your brother.”

The recording also contains further remarks about Jisan, though the nature of the dispute between the two sides could not be independently confirmed.

Chakaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge Arifur Rahman said, “The reason why Jisan was abducted and the actual cause of his death are being investigated. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved in the incident.”

Police sent the body to the morgue of Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
