A passenger bus caught fire in front of Kafrul Police Station in Dhaka late tonight (18 September), with police saying someone deliberately set it ablaze.
The fire broke out on a Mirpur Super Link bus at around 10pm, according to police. Kafrul police, assisted by local residents, brought the fire under control shortly afterwards.
Confirming the incident, Kafrul Police Station Duty Officer Sub-Inspector Zahirul Islam told The Business Standard that the fire broke out in front of the station.
“The fire was extinguished shortly afterwards. However, we do not yet know how it started,” he said.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Mirpur Division Deputy Commissioner Md Mostak Sarker told TBS that the bus had been seized three or four days ago following an accident and was parked in front of the police station.
“Someone set fire to the bus at night. The incident is being investigated,” he said.
The incident occurred amid reports of crude bomb explosions at Jatrabari Police Station and several other locations across the capital today.
