Four people were killed and at least 10 others injured when a Dhaka-bound bus lost control and fell into a roadside ditch after colliding with an autorickshaw in Sadar upazila here yesterday (19 September).
The accident occurred around 11.40pm near Dhalu Gazi’s intersection adjacent to Basak Bazar on the Dhaka-Kuakata highway.
The deceased were identified as Kaiyum Peda, 50, of Amkhola village in Galachipa, Shilpi Rani, 40, of Char Ani Bauria village, Jahangir Hawladar, 35, of Badarpur village and Tithi, 23, of Bilbilas village in Bauphal upazila of the district.
Police and local sources said the bus of Imran Travels, heading for Dhaka from Taltali, collided head-on with an autorickshaw and both vehicles lost control and fell into a roadside ditch.
On information, police and Fire Service personnel rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies of four people. Locals said the deceased were passengers of the autorickshaw.
Officer-in-Charge of Patuakhali Sadar Police Station Md Moniruzzaman said the bodies of four people had been recovered and necessary legal proceedings would be taken.
