The application process for the first-year undergraduate admission test at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) for the 2026-27 academic session will begin on 21 November, as announced in the previous admission circular, with the test scheduled to be held on 16 January.
Professor Dr Kamrul Hasan, head of the BUET Admission Test Committee and a professor of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, confirmed the information to The Business Standard today (7 November).
“The previous admission circular remains in effect. An academic council meeting will be held sometime next week, where a final decision will be made. However, we are proceeding with preparations to hold the admission test on 16 January,” he said.
This means BUET will not postpone its admission test for candidates who fail one or two subjects in the HSC or equivalent examinations, even if the authorities decide to arrange supplementary examinations for them following the publication of the results.
BUET administration had earlier announced a similar decision.
Meanwhile, BUET will retain last year’s admission eligibility criteria despite a decline in both the HSC/equivalent pass rate and the number of GPA-5 achievers this year.
Professor Kamrul Hasan said more than 18,000 students would be eligible to apply under the existing criteria, while only 10,000 candidates would be selected to sit for the admission test.
“The number of students who secured GPA-5 is twice the number of candidates we will allow to sit for the admission test. So, there is no need to relax our admission eligibility criteria,” he added.
